Let me explain. About 2 weeks ago, I had had bed bugs right before my volunteer visit to Esteli, Esteli. My family kept telling me that I had gotten bit by mosquitoes. The truth is, ever since I touched down here, I have been getting bit non-stop and “have the experience” so to speak, to know the difference between a mosquito bite and some other bug bite. Furthermore, I put on repellent, pants (and tuck them into my socks), a long sleeve shirt (tucked into my pants), and a sweatshirt. Mosquitoes are definitely not skilled or talented enough to get through all of that but bed bugs? They’ve just totally raised the bar in this situation and had gotten through the repellent and clothes.
Needless to say, we dragged my mattress outside to bake in the sun and take a beating and then spray it down with that is pretty much the equivalent of Raid in the states and then bake it again. Now I get to add this to my “Welcome to the Peace Corps” list!
