Volunteer Visit Continued...

I went to Nacional, one of 3 high schools where the volunteer here teaches, to observe the business course, classroom management, lesson planning, and getting to know the Nicaraguan teachers. I then had the chance to meet with a local women's group who make hand-made cards from paper pulp, coffee beans, the outer peel of onions, coconut fibers, etc. In essence, taking waste products, transforming it with value added and selling it. The current volunteer and I had a meeting with a woman who has been working with the group since February about the process and creative ways to market the products, sell, and teach them basic accounting skills. This project has a LOT of potential and I can't wait to learn more about it. There are NGOs such as Funori, who work with on youth development projects, grant writing, and being in a predominantly agriculture region will feed my desire to learn more about agrobusiness. There's so much here and I can't help but already grow a little bit attached to Esteli, hoping this will be my permanent site.

Meeting at Mocha Nana for me to learn more about the women's group that is making paper from all natural products and their plan to introduce basic accounting concepts to the group.

Mel's landlady's dog, Nena (means babe in Spanish) had 6 baby puppies just 3 hours before my arrival!
One of Nena's pups just 2.5 days old!
